Search Engine Optimization or SEO is not an exact science. Expert SEO professionals have their own set of beliefs, tips and tricks that they follow. Needless to say that the world of SEO is notorious for spreading disinformation, misunderstandings, and assumptions. This is due, in part, to Google’s decision to remain something of a dark box in order to minimize SERP manipulation.

At BrandLoom, we have an expert SEO Team that works on clients from various sectors. At regular intervals (weekly) we also organise internal training sessions where our SEO team brainstorms. The team discusses what is working for them and what is not.

This article is a summary of some of the top SEO Myths and misconceptions our team has faced while working with our hundreds of clients.

So let us get started:

Top SEO Myths and Misconceptions

1 SEO is All about Keywords and Keyword Stuffing- Biggest SEO Myth

It’s critical to look beyond keywords and instead, to make sure a website/content is accessible/useful to its intended users.

SEO isn’t about KEYWORD (STUFFING), this is about USABILITY & CONTENT!

Want to Rank on Page 1 of Google with old Techniques like Keyword Stuffing? Well, that might have worked for you in the past, but today Usability and Content are the two most important things to Rank higher in SERP.

User Experience (UX) with factors like Loading Speed, Mobile Responsiveness, and UI are the factors that affect search performance.

Content is why search takes place, so if your content does not matches users’ internet, the chances of it ranking on Google are next to nothing.

Poor Performance in the above signals to Google that your site has a UX or content issue.

2 Objective of SEO is to find one of the Top 10 Positions in SERP – SEO Misconception

This isn’t about 10 Blue Links anymore, this is about the Users’ Intent.

Your dream of being on Page 1 of Google is no longer enough.

Aim for highly sought-after Google-featured snippets. The snippet, displayed above the top organic result, can increase visitors to your site.

Looking for SEO Services Company in Mumbai, contact us now.

Although Google withholds the specifications for being featured on snippets, you can get a good sense by looking at the results that have already been displayed.

For instance, “how to” manuals with detailed instructions are more likely to appear in Google snippets. You should reconsider your SEO strategy if you aren’t optimising for Google snippets.

3 Content Creation is One-Time Job : SEO Misconception

Let us Make Things Better. Constantly!

Most of the clients consider that content creation is a one-time job.

If you are targeting Organic Traffic (Which you should), REMEMBER that almost anything can be made better. SEO efforts do not finish after web pages are effectively placed on Google’s first page.

The difficulty is keeping them at the top and the competition at bay.

To do this, you must continue to improve the web pages.

To begin, revisit previous content and update it.  Search engines appreciate new material.

Improve your page loading speed, redirect broken links, concentrate on internal linking, and the list goes on. If you want to see long-term outcomes, you must constantly make things better.

4. More Keywords = More Organic Traffic

More KEYWORDS DENSITY does NOT equal more ORGANIC TRAFFIC.

Many of our clients think that increasing Keyword Density Will Improve Page Ranking.

While you may wish to rank for a few keywords, search engines will not reward you for how many times you use them in your content.

Keyword stuffing is repeatedly using the same terms on your website, which can result in search engine penalties.

Instead, a few well-researched and strategically placed keywords may perform wonders.

Search engine algorithms will easily discover these; keyword research is critical to your Content Marketing Strategy and Digital Marketing approach.

Knowing what people are looking for along their buyer’s journey and what precise terms or phrases they use the most will help you generate higher organic traffic.

5 More Backlinks = More Organic Traffic

This isn’t about Quantity, this is about Quality.

Some of our clients think having more links to their websites is a beneficial SEO approach, but this is no longer the case.

In fact, having too many low-quality connections may be dragging you down and jeopardising your credibility.

Instead, reduce the number of connections you have and focus more on the quality of links and content.

This technique will assist you in focusing on what will benefit your consumers while establishing authority.

Linking to highly reputable sites that you trust and that people may trust is another excellent trick.

6 SEO is Dead : Top SEO Myth

Many of our startup clients think generating organic traffic to their sites is impossible, as their competition is already well established.

Some worry about frequent algorithm changes by search engines.

Hence —— SEO is Dead.

Well, A bend in the road is not the end of the road unless you fail to make the turn.

Search engines try to apply basic life principles to their algorithm; as long as you stay true to them, your SEO strategy can not go wrong.

So don’t pay any heed to this myth. A well-thought-out SEO strategy will help you reap rich dividends.

7 It is OK to have Duplicate Content on eCommerce sites.

Original Content…Does it matter?
.
This is one discussion that I often have with my eCommerce clients. Many of them do not understand the value of original content. They believe that duplicate content is fine.
.
Well, The Panda algorithm focuses on eliminating sites that duplicate or plagiarize content.
.
As ranking algorithms get smarter, it’s more and more unlikely to rank higher with content that isn’t original.
.
So I recommend that eCommerce marketplaces invest in original and quality content; it will off.

8 Meta Keywords are Critical for SEO – Top SEO Myth

Well, today, Meta Keywords are overrated.

But some of Our Clients think Meta keywords are super important.

This is one of those SEO myths that used to be true but are now obsolete due to overuse and misuse.

Meta keywords are meta tags in a Web page’s HTML code. It is used to assist search engines in determining the page’s topic.

However, over the years, these were misused (overstuffing these on the page). To address the issue of keyword stuffing, Google decided to make meta keywords obsolete by updating its algorithm.

While Yahoo and other search engines may still index meta keywords, they are so insignificant that they are almost meaningless.

Conclusion

With regular updates in the algorithm, these SEO myths will be unending. While some myths are logical, others are baseless.

Now you know what to believe and what not, I suggest you upgrade your SEO strategy. If you need help with SEO services in India, contact our team at BrandLoom.
