Hi there,

Here is a marketing story that inspires me –
It’s about how we helped an IT services company crush it on West Africa’s social media.

Our client wanted to do two
1. Be recognized as the go-to authority in their field
2. Create more demand for their services.

Why?
Because being recognized as a go-to authority in their field, could attract more clients and opportunities.

Our strategy team at BrandLoom conducted internal strategy sessions and gave them a proposal to achieve desired results with a timeline of 6 months (more or less).

Our Secret Weapon : A Targeted Social Media Approach

Here’s what we did –

STEP 1: Find out who you want to talk to. (Audience Analysis)

First, we had to pinpoint exactly where their audience hung out online.
Was it Facebook?
Twitter?
LinkedIn?
Of course, the client thought it was LinkedIn.

But, our analysis did not agree. . .
The answer wasn’t LinkedIn, like they originally thought.
Surprise, surprise!
Turns out, their target audience was much more active on – Facebook & Instagram.
So that’s where we went.

Pro Tip **
You need to get real-time insights into where your audience is most active and what they care about.

Mistake to Avoid **
Don’t assume you know where your audience is based on stereotypes. Always back your decisions with data. Assuming LinkedIn was the primary platform for our client without proper analysis would have been a costly mistake.

STEP 2: What do they want to see? (Content Creation)

Next, we created content that was first, engaging and then, educational – tailored to our instagram & facebook audiences. (yes, what works on linkedin may not work on insta)

We weren’t just throwing up cat memes or inspirational quotes (although those do have their place).

We were dishing out serious knowledge about digital transformation, but in a fun way.

Here’s what we mostly did, because this is what works:

1. Infographics : Visually appealing and easy to understand, these were a hit.
2. Short Videos : Bite-sized, informative videos that kept viewers hooked.
3. Blog Posts : In-depth articles that provided real value without putting readers to sleep.

Pro Tip **
Repurpose your content across different formats. Turn a popular blog post into an infographic or a video series. This extends the life of your content and reaches different segments of your audience.

Mistake to Avoid **
Avoid creating content that is too promotional. Focus on actually adding value to your audience’s lives. If your content feels like an infomercial, you will lose engagement. Quickly. . .

STEP 3: Shoot higher. (Targeted Advertising)

Organic social posts are great – for organic reach and engagement, but they have limitations. Limited reach.

In fact, organic posts now only reach a small fraction of your followers. Social platforms ensure that.

However, strategic ads can target a wider, more specific audience.

We ran targeted ad campaigns that reached the right people at the right time.

We used advanced options like behavioral & interest targeting to ensure every dollar spent was maximized for impact.

Pro Tip **
Use retargeting ads to re-engage users who have previously interacted with your brand. This keeps your brand top-of-mind and encourages conversions from warm leads.

Mistake to Avoid **
Avoid setting and forgetting your ad campaigns. Regularly review and optimize your ads to ensure they are performing well. Ignoring underperforming ads can drain your budget without delivering results.

The Results
So, how did it all turn out? Let’s just say that our client’s social media presence went from nothing . . . to a full-on conversation!

Here are some of the fantastic goals they achieved:

1. Increased brand awareness – Everyone in West Africa’s business world now knew who the client was
2. Generated more leads – Their social media channels became lead-generation machines
3. Established themselves as a thought leader in digitization – They became the go-to experts in their field!

Now, these strategies can be applied to any industry. So whether you’re selling IT services or something completely different, use this plan to improve the discovery of your business.

All you need is a dedicated team of a strategist, copywriter, video editor and of course a social media manager, with a strategic plan to reach your goals.
